India: Naxalism spreading its clout in more areas

"NEW DELHI: More areas are coming under the influence of leftist extremism. This, despite government claims that increasing numbers of Marxist- Leninist militants have either been arrested or have surrendered. Guerrillas Kill Eight Policemen in India
"PATNA, India - Communist guerrillas staged two separate attacks on police in eastern India, killing eight officers, officials said Tuesday. Three officers also were injured when rebels detonated a land mine early Tuesday as they were returning from a patrol in the densely forested Cherki Valley, Inspector-General of Police A.C. Verma told The Associated Press. [...] Militants of the outlawed Maoist Communist Center were suspected in both attacks, police said."
