"Badranna, 32, says he led a much happier life in his previous avtar as a Naxalite. A gardener at the Shaheed Park in Jagdalpur in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar district, Badranna had laid down arms three years ago and surrendered before police."

Bangladesh: Spider Web operation fails
"Ringleaders of the seven outlawed parties in 10 southwestern districts continue to evade arrest despite two successive joint drives in the region. On the other hand, 19 people were killed by outlaws till August 5 since the Operation Spider Web by the joint forces began on July 18, sources said. Six of the killings took place in Kushtia district. At least 50 ringleaders with nearly 10,000 cadres of the parties are active in this region, they said."

Nepal: Terrorist charges against Maoist leaders withdrawn
"Nepal's appeals court approved the government's bid to withdraw terrorism charges against top Maoist leader Babu Ram Bhattarai and his two colleagues, a court source told AFP. Officials had appealed to the Patan Appellate Court on July 10 to withdraw the charges against Bhattarai and his two Maoist colleagues as a prelude to negotiations between the Maoist rebels and government, the source said."

"Two Maoist rebels were shot dead in an encounter in Nepal, where the rebels abducted and killed two security personnel, an army spokesman said."

Nepal Memories: Thoughts Provoked by Seeing Photos of Women with Guns
"The show, "Nepal: Faces of a People's War--Photographs by Li Onesto" was held at the Women's Building of San Francisco from May 3 to May 30, 2003. At a reception for the show, an audiotape was played from a young Nepali woman, expressing her feelings of growing up in Nepal and the effect Li Onesto's photos of the women guerrillas had on her. India: Jharkhand beefs up security arrangements for Independence Day
"Special security measures were also taken in the extremist dominated districts of the state since the outlawed Maoist Communist Centre (MCC) had called for a boycott of the celebrations and to hoist black flags on that day.

Administration was also taking precaution since the MCC ultras may retaliate following the killing of 11 of their activists in the Lango village in East Shingbhum district recently."
