Kurd rebels stay in Iraq mountains despite amnesty "An amnesty law designed to end a Kurdish rebellion in southeast Turkey has so far failed in its primary aim of enticing the guerrillas down from the Iraqi mountains, a Turkish official said on Tuesday. The Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) launched a separatist campaign in the southeast nearly 20 years ago and over 30,000 people have died in the conflict. The 1999 capture of rebel leader Abdullah Ocalan curbed the violence, but last week's end to a five-year PKK ceasefire fuelled fears of renewed fighting."

India deports three Maoists "India has deported three Maoists to Nepal after arresting them in Bairginiya in Bihar. The three are leaders of the Madesh Mukti Morcha affiliated with the rebel group, published reports said. They were arrested with arms and ammunition Sunday after a police raid on a hotel in the Indian town. Those arrested were Mohammad Majid, Mohammad Aftab and Mohammad Anwar of Hajminia in Rautahat district."

Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) spokesperson Gregorio Rosal said the guerrillas sympathized with the grievances raised by more than 300 junior officers and men who mutinied on July 27, demanding the resignation of the President and top security officials over alleged corruption."
